TOPIC; SECURITY IN THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY

According to Maritz(2008)security is one of the aspects that one should look at when selecting a hotel to stay.Hotel security, for example, guarding require the security officers who are well trained, skilled and knowledgeable, it is vital to hotels / lodges to have in place a security guarding that runs in line with service standards. Security guard should maintain standards like survey the premises.

 

Some of the security threads that mostly arises in hotel is bomb threads.in most cases bomb threats are made through telephone call or blackmail letter. In this thread the first step is to report to the general manager with immediate effect and the manager will then report to the security manager who will then report to the police (Anon)

In all workplaces management specifies that it is not responsible for valuables and employee’s personal belongings like their handbags, items kept in the personal lockers.  Yet management must take all possible measures to prevent theft among employees and of employee belongings.

With regard to guest valuables, management informs guests that the hotel is not responsible for valuables left in the room, advising them to secure these in safety deposit boxes provided by the hotel.  Besides taking care of security issues related to the people they employ , management must undertake some necessary measures, among which include, •Management and operational policies regarding the security of guest rooms

 

 

 

For security threads not to take place, as a security Officer, you are responsible for monitoring and controlling staff entrances, patrolling on a regular basis, and managing undesirable behavior to deliver a safe Guest and Member experience. A Security Officer would also be required to investigate theft and support evacuation procedures. Specifically, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:Monitor and control staff entrances,conduct regular searches of bags, carried by members of staff and report discrepancies or violations immediately,control the Goods pass out procedure for any items purchased, loaned, or otherwise legitimately obtained.
